 "Scary Dove!!!" 2010-03-03
By A Rebel Gator Momma
If I could give this -5 stars. We got this toy from our registry. After having it for a couple months, I finally gave it to my 5 month old, as she has started teething. The first day I gave it to her, she kinda tried to chew on the wood- fine. Today when I gave it to her, she was chewing on the tail feathers- NOT FINE! She had it in her mouth for maybe 1-2 minutes, and then I noticed bright red stuff pouring from her mouth. It was so red, I thought it was blood. I panicked, grabbed the toy from her, then wiped off her mouth with her bib. I then realized it was dye from the red fabric on the tail! I tried to wipe her mouth out, but literally for 30+ minutes, she kept drooling red dye- from only 1-2 minutes of chewing on the toy! I called the toy company after I calmed down, and then assured me that it is a non-toxic dye- fine, but I feel like it should not come out of a fabric that a baby will be chewing/sucking on. They are sending me a return envelope so they can do quality control on the dove. I just don't feel like a "natural/environmentally friendly" toy should leak dye. So, I would think twice about buying this item!!!

This has been a wonderful simple first toy for our son. We gave it to him for Christmas when he was 3 months. Though he wasn't immediately interested, he was soon, and it was the first toy he could really grip and move to his mouth. We like it because it's one of the quietest toys unless there's something hard to hit it against; the crinkle of some of the "tail feathers" provides some interest but is very soft. It's also a great size to throw in a small diaper bag.

I was a little nervous he would poke himself with it, especially put the "beak" in his eye, but it didn't happen. Certainly it seems more safe than most hard objects. Just judge your baby's control vs strength.

My almost 4 month old daughter just started grabbing 2 weeks ago and has and easy time holding on and it definitely catches her attention. I find I have to have many different kinds of grabby/teething toys though because she tends to get bored after a little bit, but I hold them and reintroduce them later in the day and it's all new & fun to her once again.

The baby loves it. I like that it's wood, lightweight, and easy for her to handle. I also like that it doesn't make a lot of noise. We use this as a church toy for our 8 month old. Very cute.

My 7 month old enjoys biting and sucking on this toy. His hands can grab the toy well through the hole in the middle. The feathers on the tail end have that krinkle paper inside so the make a fun sound.
